Princess Lunar rescued from nearby canals after getting loose at the Gold Coast on Saturday

Just when you thought you had seen everything in racing.

Track staff on the Gold Coast never thought they would be disrobing and swimming after a racehorse down a nearby canal.

It was eventually a case of all’s well that ends well when Princess Lunar was safely returned to the track after having a maritime adventure, being rescued by Gold Coast starter Kenny Watson and other racing officials.

But there were dramatic scenes when Princess Lunar dumped jockey Tegan Harrison on the way to the gates and then the horse crashed through the outside fence of the Gold Coast track.

On a hot day, the Scott Morrisey trained mare then decided to go for a cooling dip in a neighbouring canal.

With vet staff and track officials needed for the rescue, jockeys were told to return their horses to the mounting yard while the drama unfolded.

The Gold Coast races were delayed but the great news was Princess Lunar returned seemingly unharmed and unaffected by the misadventure.
